-
- The Spectrum I used achieved Z3 speeds of about 5MB/sec compared the
- CV64's (that I now use) 7MB/sec.
-
- The Spectrum 2MB tops at 800 x 600 x 24-bit, where the CV64 4MB tops at
- 1024 x 768 x 24-bit (the 2MB version would be limited to the same screen
- modes as the Spectrum).
-
- 24-bit on the CV64 is actually usable for GUI screens, with menus and
- windows being drawn at acceptable (if not exactly fast) speed. The
- Spectrum's 24-bit modes are much slower, and not particularly useful for
- GUI screens.
-
- The CV64 is also much faster at screen swapping, though the Spectrum
- (according to SysSpeed) is faster as text scrolling, not that I noticed
- the change.
-
- All round, I was very happy with the Spectrum. It feels snappy in all
- modes but full 24-bit (1024 x 768 x 16-bit is great, and even OK for GUI
- screens). I only bought the CV64 because it was offered at a cheap
- second-hand price, otherwise I would have stuck with the Spectrum.
-
- I could easily recommend that if you are able to purchase the Spectrum for
- half (or less) the cost of the CV64, you'll do well, since the Spectrum
- offers 90% of the functionality of the CV64, unless you want the larger
- and faster 24-bit modes.
-
- It is also my opinion that the Spectrum is more system friendly (the CV64
- suffers Vertical Bar Crashes if clocked to high, challenging the Z3 bus).
-
- DG> Is there a version of Cybergraphix that supports the Spectrum board? Can
-
- I used exactly the same software for both boards (ie., CyberGraphX), which
- also runs on all but a couple of the most ancient cards these days.
-

- DG> Does the Spectrum have a passthrough cable, so I can still get my lovely

-
- Yep. Only the Retina doesn't allow this, and CyberGraphX even works on the
- Z3 Retina (not the original).

- Hope this helps.
